As a keen gardener myself I love to paint people’s gardens. Such a tranquil, colourful subject, and it feeds my curiosity (read; nosiness) as to what other people do with their plants and flowers. Gardens can be very personal spaces. Sometimes planned with precision, a dream garden with everything in its rightful place, or perhaps moulded and shaped over many seasons, guided by nature. Either way, they are always precious to their owners – a place to escape to after a busy day, a place to breathe fresh air and listen to the birds, a place to potter.
A garden portrait can make a lovely gift for someone who cherishes their garden. For Mother’s or Father’s Day – acknowledging their time spent over the years tending their garden. For Christmas – a reminder of colour, brightness and warmth in the depths of winter, when it’s cold and wet outside. Or as a precious keepsake of a garden relinquished – I know that if I were ever to move from my present house, handing over the garden to someone else would be my biggest heart wrench.
Commission a bespoke painting of your garden or allotment. I work from photographs, so if you are interested in commissioning a painting please email me first to discuss your requirements, along with a couple of photos. I can advise on painting size, aspect and if any more photos are needed.
I look forward to seeing your garden!
