House portraits

A love of historical architecture got me painting with watercolours many moons ago. Something about the patina of age, little bits of detailed masonry and the stories they had to tell inspired me to record them in paint for posterity. From grand country houses, to churches, to cottages, to garden sheds, and right down to rusty bits of iron railings – they’ve all been painted at some point in my own artistic history.House portraits are not so different. While they may be lacking in medieval ramparts and Grecian columns the humble terrace or semi are in their own way historical architecture to the family that lives there, and creates a sense of belonging. A house portrait acknowledges the owner’s recognition of this and the special worth placed on this particular home.

Commission a bespoke painting of a building precious to you. This could be your home, wedding venue, shop, holiday home, place of worship, or even your garden shed. I work from photographs, so if you are interested in commissioning a house portrait please email me first to discuss your requirements, along with a couple of photos of your house. I can advise on painting size, aspect and if any more photos are needed.
