About

Hi! I’m a painter, chiefly in watercolour, residing in Halstead on the north Essex/Suffolk border. I got into painting watercolours through an interest in old cemeteries and the beautiful, crumbling ivy-clad monuments therein. They inspired me to record them in paint, and when later asked if I could do a house portrait I surmised that painting someone’s semi was not so different to painting a 4-bedroom mausoleum. Thenceforth I have painted many many houses, both great and small, and a few more gravestones too. I love the natural world, and find the structural, gnarled and twisted forms of old trees a joy to paint. In moving to a more rural location I have found enjoyment in painting the local landscape, from the lovely old country architecture to the fields and hills around Halstead. When having a tea break from painting, I will often wander into the garden to observe the birds and insects that I share my green space with.
